Owner left Pakistan in 1971 and arrived in the UK with a clear vision. Born in Nairobi in 1956, he had always been an active and outspoken member of his community in Pakistan, deeply interested in politics and passionate about the well-being of his people. After moving to England, he sought opportunities that would allow him to stay connected with the community he cared so much about.

Drawing on his experiences in Pakistan, Owner understood the specific needs of ethnic communities settling in the UK. At a time when the textile industry was booming in northern England, he felt a stronger pull toward something more meaningful helping families enjoy familiar food and ensuring access to halal products in a foreign country. The idea of bringing the flavours of Pakistan to the UK truly resonated with him.

With this vision, Al Halal Supermarket was founded in 1985.

What began as a halal supermarket offering ethnic food soon expanded with the support of his younger brothers. The business grew rapidly, eventually becoming one of the UK’s leading halal supermarket chains, with multiple locations across the North and Midlands.

The mission was simple: provide a wide variety of fresh, high-quality products at affordable prices, while delivering exceptional customer care. Although the store first catered mainly to the South Asian community, it gradually expanded its offerings to include Middle Eastern, African, East Asian, and even South American products. Owner didn’t just bring the flavours of Pakistan to the UK he introduced flavours from around the world, truly living up to the name of his company.
